Google has worked with HTC and T-Mobile to identify the cause of Nexus One issues involving 3G service in certain areas and it seems a potential fix is possible. Engineers investigating the reports have narrowed down the source of the issue in some cases, but details are not public yet.

This action is following multiple complaints of a number of Nexus One users regarding poor 3G reception in certain areas or even a total lack of service. Google has asked the Nexus One owners to provide specific elements regarding the behaviour of their phones and, if possible, comparisons against devices on the same networks but other than Google’s handset.

The problem would be addressed via software updates currently in development and testing stages. Initial tests are given positive results and an over-the-air update is expected to be ready for the users next week. Google also mentioned that poor 3G signal may simply be caused by unsatisfactory performance of the network in some areas.
