HTC’s myTouch Slide may replace Sidekick devices at T-Mobile

Unnamed sources have indicated that T-Mobile might phase out its Sidekick devices in favour of HTC’s upcoming myTouch Slide. The Sidekick handsets would be gradually phased out, but it is not known when the whole line would disappear completely. There also is another possibility to replace the Sidekick by a new series of phones developed by the Danger team, which is now owned by Microsoft. The handsets, known as Project Pink, are rumoured to be currently under development.

In fall 2009, T-Mobile experienced a failure that made the content Sidekick users stored online to be permanently erased. T-Mobile had to offer the affected Sidekick owners a month’s credit and even early exits from the contracts. Analysts have made a connection between this failure and the soured relations between the carrier and Microsoft, which could lead to a shift to Android.

At least two of the Pink devices are due, the Pure and the Turtle, both of them said to sport fast processors and also high-resolution touchscreens.
