LG has recently presented a new Windows Mobile Windows 6.5-based handset in Korea. The device is known by three names: LG-SU210, LU21 or KU2100. Besides the latest operating system from Microsoft, the 210 series has a 3-inch touchscreen with a 240×480 resolution. Its 5-megapixel camera with auto focus can capture photos and video sequences. Compatibility is provided with WCDMA (HSPA) and GSM networks.

The handset also has T-DMB TV tuner to pick free-to-air broadcasts in Korea only. The majority of the storage is provided by the microSD memory card slot. Connectivity is established through Wi-Fi, GPS and Bluetooth built-in. the battery’s operating life has not been made public but it is a 1,500mAh unit.

The release date of the device and the pricing information remain unknown. Whether the device will be sold in the North American market is unlikely, at least in the current form, with a TV tuner included.

  1. Henry Tsau says:

The problem with this concept of phone is that the existing Windows Mobile operating system (that the phone carries) will have a very short life before it is replaced by Microsoft’s new (and incompatible) mobile operating system.

The other thing is that “touch” (capacitive) screens are great if the software is written for them, however, in the case of Windows Mobile 6.5, most of the software is written to be used with a stylus pen. This causes problems.

When Microsoft’s new mobile platform arrives, new software written for it will presumably be designed for finger touch, it won’t run on most of today’s phones.
