Meizu’s CEO J. Wong, in a forum post, has given the fans details about the M9, which is the M8’s sequel, the Chinese iPhone clone. The new model is slightly thinner and taller than the M8, but will have higher performance as it should rely on a 1GHz ARM processor made by Samsung and a capacity of 512MB of RAM. The device is meant to have 3G connection but should also reach WCDMA networks via HSPA, CDMA through EVDO and also TD-SCDMA, in order to cover the Chinese territory and the whole world.

The specifications mention a large enough display at 3.6 inches and a 720×480 resolution. Other features are GPS and Wi-Fi, as well as a 5-megapixel camera. J. Wong did not mention when the M9 will be available, but in the past, when talking about a 3G phone, he had said a six-month gap would exist between that moment and the launch.

In 2007, the M8 has generated controversy as it was perceived as a very close copy of the yet unreleased original iPhone. After numerous delays, its release was pushed late in 2008 as a Windows CE-based device that gradually evolved to its own unique interface elements besides borrowing some from Android and Apple. The M8 is selling not only in China but also in other countries. It was never sold in the United States due to evident copyright issues.
