Korean Samsung has chosen a post-CES launch for its camera line for the United States. The unveiling of the line shows the top cameras HZ30W and HZ35W, which have both the highest zooms ever seen in the compact class. The 12-megapixel units have zooms from 10× to 15×, which is enough to rival recent long-range shooters. They still have equivalent 24mm close focus used for wide-angle photography. Both cameras have optical image stabilization and software compensation when absolutely necessary. They have typical full-auto mode that includes auto scenes and can capture 720-pixel video in the H.264 format. Life-size preview is provided through an HDMI output.
What separates the two cameras is display and positional data. The simpler of the two is the HZ30W, which has a 3-inch LCD. The HZ35W has a colour-rich 3-inch AMOLED and features GPS for geotagging its shots.
Pricing information for the two cameras is not provided but Samsung has promised to ship them in March.
