Motorola introduced, a few days ago, the first smartphone to ship on the Korean market with an Android 2.0 operating system. The MOTOROI is a slate-like version of the well known Droid and will be available through SK Telecom. It will sport a 3.7-inch touchscreen with a 480×854 resolution. Although similar to its American relative, the Korean device will have an 8-megapixel camera with flash and will be capable to record 720-pixel videos. These videos can be played at full quality through an HDMI output option.
The built-in memory has a capacity of 8GB and there is a microSDHC slot for an additional memory of 32GB. The new device has built-in 3G and Wi-Fi and also has the entire suite of Google applications out of the box. Korean users also get a terrestrial DMB TV tuner capable of receiving up to 24 audio and TV channels with no charge. A full- or half-sized virtual QWERTY keyboard, a keypad or a hand-writing pad can be used for inputting text. The handset is able to read Microsoft and PDF documents as well, and is capable of recognizing written text and saving it as a text document thanks to its camera and the optical character recognition software included.
No information about the price for now, although the device is expected to ship in Korea in early February. A version of the device will probably ship to North America in the near future.
