The Commercial Times claims that Apple is developing the first touchscreen iMac. The new model is believed to be a 22-inch device and would complete the series including the already on sale 21.5-inch and 27-inch versions. The manufacturer would be Quanta, while the touch overlays for the screen would be produced by Sintek Photronic. Other information about the new system is not available.
The rumour is to be questioned as the strategy seems unusual for Apple. Apple has only recently added multi-touch support to its iMac through the Magic Mouse. In the past, it has only occasionally added an interim model with significant feature changes at a short time after another major revision. More than this, a 22-inch display would give a little advantage as the resolution would be the same or even lower as the 21.5-inch display with 1,080-pixel display used now by Apple.
PCs with 22-inch touchscreens have already been produced in the past by Hewlett Packard and other manufacturers.
