Sprint is preparing an impressive Android smartphone that is intended to draw attention to its network, as some sources claim. The HTC device, nicknamed “Supersonic”, will be somehow similar in spirit to another HTC device, the HD2, with a very large 4.3-inch touchscreen. The device would run Android 2.1 and be one of the first phones from Sprint with WiMAX, taking advantage on other carriers with its first 4G phone in the United States.
The smartphone would run on a 1GHz Snapdragon and would have Sense UI of the Windows Mobile counterpart, but may present different colours. It would also have a kickstand on its back for watching video, like the Imagio. The device would probably not have a digital TV tuner.
The firmware is considered to have some bugs and thus the production in the near future is not possible. If it uses Android 2.1, it may be presented at the CTIA show in late March, known as a home to unveilings of US-specific phones.
The news comes at a critical point for the carrier, as it lacks a flagship phone after the failure of the Palm Pre, which was believed to drive the sales for Sprint and prevent customers from leaving the carrier for the iPhone or other competitors. Although Sprint has the HTC Hero and the Samsung Moment sporting Android, the company has little attention when compared to Verizon with the Motorola Droid or to T-Mobile with the Nexus One.
Why so long i want this phone in early February and you say March?
My uncle owns a lot of the sprints in MN where I live I’m just waiting discount too wow.
