The maker of the two-wheeled, stand-up transportation vehicle, Segway, recently made the announcement of its takeover by a UK-based company. The takeover is related to a late December merger and details were known shortly before. The company that acquired Segway is supported by a prominent businessman from the United Kingdom, at the same time chairman of Hesco Bastion, Jimi Heselden. He is also an investor in the company and owns distribution rights to Segway vehicles in the United Kingdom. As a part of the takeover process, Segway has received funds for the development of the company.
Despite pessimistic forecasts about Segway not surviving, the company’s sales have been marking steady growth since 2002 when the first models of the vehicle have been produced. Sales are high enough and Segway is currently offering seven models of the vehicle in the United States.
