Among many product presentations at CES, Sony released the first two digital cameras capable of recording 1,920×1,080 video in the AVCHD format. Both the DSC-HX5V and DSC-TX7 feature a 10-megapixel sensor, have the same Backlight Correction High Dynamic Range (HDR) feature and use the same TransferJet wireless technology.
The HX5V sports the GPS + Compass geo-tagging feature as well as image stabilization. It also has a three-inch LCD and a 10× optical zoom equivalent of a 25-250mm film camera lens. The camera supports 10 frames per second shooting mode and has a HDMI output to connect to HDTVs.
The TX7 has a larger touch sensitive 3.5-inch display and a Carl Zeiss Vario-Tessar 4× optical wide angle lens and a HDMI output.
Both cameras can receive a Memory Stick or a SDHC memory card, unlike previous cameras produced by Sony.
The shipping window for the HX5V is March and the camera will be available in black at about $350. The TX7 will be sold in silver, blue or red in February for about $400. The Memory Stick with TransferJet will be released later this month and will cost around $100, while for the docking station the release date is February and the price is about $150.
