Apple and Verizon are possibly involved in negotiations for a CDMA-equipped iPhone but it seems they do not agree on pricing, according to analyst Maynard J. Um from UBS. A Wall Street analyst, Brian Marshall of Broadpoint AmTech, believes that Apple would choose Verizon as the 3G carrier to support the rumoured tablet device. Maynard Um thinks that a new iPhone will be available to the public in the middle of 2010, although a Verizon launch could be affected by existing disagreements on the price. Analyst Chris Larsen from Piper Jaffray, analysing the possibility of an Apple handset on Verizon’s network, says there are 70 percent chances for a 2010 Verizon iPhone, while other analysts believe that the current AT&T exclusivity will not end until 2011, as it was expected to.

Anthony Melone, Verizon CTO, recently said that the company’s network was prepared for the iPhone, but he avoided to mention whether this network was specially upgraded for Apple’s handset or not.

Although an iPhone on Verizon’s network is not certain for the moment being, Brian Marshall says Verizon is Apple’s best choice for the tablet’s Internet connectivity extension beyond Wi-Fi hotspots. Marshall also says that the tablet would be supported by multiple carriers, but Verizon is certainly one of them, as he has been told.

Apple’s tablet and Verizon iPhone have to be confirmed by either company, but everybody expects further details, as it is already known that Apple will make a major product announcement at a media event scheduled for January 27th.

I have been hearing this song and dance from Verizon now for quite some time. I HOPE that it goes through with Verizon – otherwise I am so out of there. I purposely did NOT upgrade my phone for the last year because I didn’t want to get sucked into staying another two years. Do what I did – buy a phone outright on Craigslist and have no more contract. If they don’t get with the program and come to a deal – hit the road!

  2. I cared about the Verizon iPhone until I got the Droid. Now my feelings on the subject can be summarized by saying “meh”.
