One of the fastest storage drives ever equipping a notebook could soon turn to reality for Sony’s Z11 notebook that is on its way to the market. The 13.1-inch notebook already has the chance to be very fast thanks to a 128GB solid-state drive, but the promised “Quad SSD” would certainly increase its speed considerably. It would combine not less than four SSDs in a RAID stripe and would be capable to run very fast, copying a 1GB file in about four seconds, while a typical hard drive with 5,400RPM would need not less than 25 seconds to perform the same task.

This four-way technology would also have a significant contribution to sheering capacity as the Z11 would have either 256GB (4×64GB) or 512GB (4×128GB) of storage space. Besides this enhanced storage, the VAIO Z11 would be the first in its line to sport a backlit keyboard, which would reinforce its position as an alternative to the 13-inch Apple MacBook Pro.

Sony will unveil its new VAIO notebook together with a whole range of other models that are soon expected to be ready.
