On January 6th, HP concentrated on presenting their new high-tech notebooks. The notebooks presented were the EliteBook 8540w, 8540p, 8440w and the 8440p. All of the models presented have the same aluminum/magnesium chassis and come with important processor upgrades; the Core 2 Duo has been replaced with Core i7 or with Core i5. For a better 3D experience, HP has put inside the notebooks Quadro FX and NVS video processors from NVIDIA.
Following the 810F specifications of the US army, the notebooks are created to resist to water, shock and dust. Some of them can have 3G data access and hard-drives from 250GB to 500GB.
The 8540 models have a 15.6-inch display the 8540p having NVS 5100M video card and the 8540w a FX 880M or 1800M. On the other hand the 8440w and the 8440p have a 14-inch display and Quadro FX 380M for the w model and Quadro NVS 3100M for the p. Any other specifications are unavailable at the moment and the starting price is $1,299.
The ProBooks targets a mid-range market with a less expensive chassis, a hard-disk starting from 160GB but with high-end processors like Core i5/i7. The 6440b has a 14-inch display and the 6540b a 15.6-inch display, with Mobility Radeon HD 4550. The hard-disk can be upgraded to 500GB and you can choose the 3G feature as well. Thanks to these small differences HP sells there models with a starting price of only $1,099.
The new notebooks will appear on the market in February.
