The ThinkPad series update is over and has added new systems, all of them using the new mobile Core i5 and the four-core i7 from Intel.
The flagship of the series is the W510 mobile workstation, with a new 15.6-inch LED-lit screen, covering a 95 percent colour gamut. The display has a multi-touch input option, as well as a colour calibrator that was previously available only on the W700. There are also other updates, such as two extra memory slots supporting up to 16GB of RAM, a quite new keyboard and an optional, but ye t unannounced Quadro FX 880M for graphics. All the ThinkPads in the update will provide 3G over either HSPA or EVDO by using a Qualcomm Gobi chipset. The W510 is available from January 7th at a price starting at $1,599.
The T410 and T510 are the new core of the mid-range ThinkPad line-up and have LED-lit 14- and 15.4-inch displays respectively, with a 16:9 ratio, 95 percent colour-accurate 1,080-pixel for the T510. The two models have, besides the Core i5 and i7 processors, a DDR4 memory and can use the new Quadro NVS 3100M if the Intel’s graphics prove not to be fast enough. The multi-touch is limited to the trackpad. The base price of these two models is $999 and they are available from January 7th.
There also is a special version of the smaller notebook, particularly thinner, designed for those people who need portability over cost. The T410s has most of the options of the full T410. However, the change in the dimensions boosts its price to $1,399.
