Steve Jobs from Apple has been ranked first in the CEO list released by the INSEAD business school. The list will be published in the next issue of the Harvard Business Review and is based on a selection from about 2,000 CEOs. It does not evaluate people by ethics or popularity but by their importance to the companies and their shareholders. Final ranking is a combination of change in market capitalization, industry-adjusted TSR (total shareholder return) and country-adjusted TSR.

Ranked second is Yun Jong-Yong, the head of the Korean Samsung Electronics and the podium is completed with Alexey Miller, the head of the Russian gas company Gazprom. More notable tech names are present in the top 10, such as the fourth ranked John Chambers from Cisco or Jeff Bezos from Amazon, in the seventh place. Eighth and ninth are placed eBay’s Margaret Whitman and Eric Schmidt from Google. A further look on the list reveals that many of the top 30 executives are originating in the United States. Other countries, such as Canada, Japan or Brazil also have representatives in the INSEAD list.
