Dell has launched a new version of the Intel’s Pine Trail Atom-based Mini 10, with ergonomic improvements, such as a new palm rest, sculpted keys and some cosmetic changes in the design. The new model is powered by a 1.66GHz Intel Atom N450 processor allowing an extended battery life compared to the original Mini 10. The six-cell battery pack can last up to 9.5 hours when fully charged. A new option of a Broadcom high definition video decoder is also included.

Dell promises many of the specifications and optional upgrades offered for the original version of the Mini 10, such as 1GB of RAM and a 160GB hard drive included as a standard. The price of the new release is not known until full details made available, most probable on January 4th. It is known, however, that the high definition accelerator will come before the end of March, while GPS, HDTV tuning and a 1,366×768 display should be available in a few weeks. As for the operating system, Dell intends to offer Ubuntu Linux and Windows 7 Starter and also keep the Windows XP Home edition.
