Google’s phone, Nexus One, for only $199, unlocked

The first official Google phone, called the Nexus One, would be powered by Google Android and would not carry any elements of HTC branding. An important reason for the customers to buy this handset would be the cheap price. Whereas a new well-powered smartphone is currently priced at $200 with a contract, Google seems to make an irrefutable offer; instead of using the services of a carrier to sell the phone, the search giant wants to sell the handset directly to the customers, without using a carrier subsidy. This is an important advantage for those who want to buy the Google phone. The move could be similar to the developer version of the genuine version of the G1, but the Nexus One is meant to be sold to regular consumers rather than to application developers. This means that customers would not have to respect any constraining and sometimes messy contractual obligations.

Rumours say that the unlocked Nexus One would have a price of $199 in stores. This is the price without a contract and the handset would be used with whatever GSM carrier the user wants. Other rumours claim that another rebate would be available online, with a $100 value, when the clients already have a Google account and this applies to almost everyone. The planned launch date of the Nexus One is January 5th.
