RED has promised to hold a “RED Day” on February 13th in Los Angeles. This gathering is meant to present the prototypes of the long-delayed cameras EPIC and Scarlet, as well as of some of their accessories. The current RED ONE camera improved with the new generation Mysterium-X sensor will be presented too and a 4K footage produced at its native resolution will be projected using a Sony 4K projector, to demonstrate the high quality of the camera. The run-up to the event will host even more details, according to RED chief Jim Jannard.
The EPIC and the Scarlet cameras were highly expected to ship in production this year, but due to a combination of optimistic forecasts and technical issues of the camera system they have been pushed back. RED has developed completely new sensors (3K, 5K and larger) and insisted the new cameras use a completely safe and performance-capable modular system that can fully adapt to the shooting environment: DSLR-style photography utilizing still camera lenses and studio, even stereoscopic and handheld 3D recording.
The first EPIC cameras from RED, still due to ship by the end of this year, will be distributed to just a small number of testers.
