LG is planning to massively expand its 3D TV production within the next two years. Partnering with the satellite broadcaster SkyLife, the Korean firm is working to standards for 3D broadcasts, including both delivery and minimizing side effects, but also the roll out trials for 3D TV. The two partners plan to start in Korea and afterwards expand to Europe and North America next year. the next step will be in the rest of the Americas and in Asia in 2011. LG expects to ship a total number of 3.8 million3D high definition TVs within the next two years, 400,000 of them next year and the remaining ones in 2011. SkyLife plans to invest an amount of $25 million in the creation of 3D content.

LG already has a 3D TV, the 3D model of the 47LH50, selling on the market and plans to extend this feature to other TV sets in the future. They will use an extra-thin bezel to better emphasize 3D effects. The demands on the viewer will be reduced and many TV sets will use shutter glasses instead of the more expensive and heavier active ones. The firm also expects all the TVs to do all the 3D composition. It also has TV tuners capable of picking up future 3D signals.

Other major TV manufacturers like Toshiba, Sony and Samsung are supposed to produce their own 3D TVs in the near future. Sony, for example, aims to transmit the World Cup in 3D. Many broadcasters are committed to air the 2012 London Olympics in the same 3D format.
