Google has come with a correction to the announcement saying that Android had broken the 20,000 applications milestone. The search giant admitted the Android Market has just reached 16,000 applications. The company refused to disclose the ratio of free versus paid applications, but neither denied nor confirmed the 62/38 percent ratio towards free applications.

Android has been growing much slower than once expected, as it reached a roughly 60 percent increase in the quantity of applications since having touched the 10,000-application mark in September this year. An increased interest in the development of the 1.5 version of the Android operating system and greater, as well as a greater number of Android-based handsets on the market, could bring a major contribution to a rapid increase in software.
