Free Wi-Fi for Verizon’s 3G data users

Verizon has sharpened the competition with AT&T, which has offered free US Wi-Fi, by launching its own Wi-Fi service. This service expands the carrier’s mobile broadband and offers free Wi-Fi to customers who are already using data-only 3G devices, like modems, netbooks and MiFi hotspots. Verizon has thousands of hotspots in the USA, in Canada and Mexico, considering this an alternative to a roaming plan, from the economical point of view.

Wi-Fi access will be available for sure starting December 15th. It needs the provider’s VZAccess Manager 7.2 or later, which is compatible with both Windows and Mac OS X. Users can opt for a domestic mobile broadband plan or a GlobalAccess plan. The standard, most popular domestic plan offers 5GB of 3G data, for $60 per month.
