The Nook e-book from Barnes & Noble has been spied and important details have been revealed. It is already known now by NookDevs that the device is based on a stock version of Android 1.5 and also that it is customized to mask the standard interface and to optimize it for the unique design with dual-display of this device. The e-book is using the Samsung S3C6410 ARM processor able to render OpenGL ES 2.0-level graphics and also has a 2GB microSD card from SanDisk. A Synaptics touch controller and the connection to the AT&T network through a Sierra Wireless 3G modem are other features of the Nook.

Further investigation has revealed that the Nook uses software that can be easily rooted or made to provide full access when using a Linux-powered computer and the Android SDK. The process s relatively simple and implies a small file edit and a shell connection from the SDK, although opening the casing in order to remove the microSD card is necessary.

The Nook is supposed to be modified in order to be able to support extra functions or content, but investigations in this direction have not been completed to date.
