LG, Samsung, Sony Pictures and Valens Semiconductor are now partners for a new project: HDBaseT Alliance. This is meant to create a new standard which will allow users to send uncompressed HD videos through Ethernet cables, from the comfort of their homes. The partnership will hopefully create a new worldwide standard that could be used in TVs, projectors, AV and home theater equipment, for content providers and IT companies. Companies see this as a necessity because up to date technologies are bandwidth-limited and offer no support for uncompressed videos.
The four companies are intending to attract other industry players into their HDBaseT Alliance too, as they are trying to finalize the standard as soon as possible. Information about other companies joining the alliance is yet to be known; it will most surely be available during the next weeks and in early January, at CES.
