Sony Ericsson has presented the Elm and the Hazel handsets and the Bluetooth Noise Shield Handsfree VH700 headset, all of them being part of the company’s GreenHeart series. This signifies that all these products were made having in mind the reduction of the CO2 emissions, the use of recycled plastics, minimized packaging, no hazardous chemicals and an electronic manual replacing the paper one. The Elm and the Hazel have similar features, like social networking support, a five-megapixel camera with auto focus, geotagging and LED flash and integrated media player.
Audio support includes an integrated FM tuner and support for Bluetooth. Both phones have access to Google Maps and Google Search through GPS, with Wisepilot turn-by-turn navigation. GSM and EDGE are supported for the 850/900/1,800/1,900MHz bands but HSPA-based 3G has limited 900/2,100MHz bands. The Elm has a 2.2-inch display, while the Hazel has a larger 2.6-inch screen, both using the same 320×240-pixel resolution.
The third device, the Bluetooth Noise Shield Handsfree VH700 headset sports dual microphones and uses active noise cancellation to eliminate background sounds. Its Bluetooth 2.1 support allows the device to connect to two phones at the simultaneously. The device can clip onto user’s clothes or collars.
Although prices have not been announced, the Elm will be shipped in red or black in the first quarter of 2010, while the Hazel will ship in pink or black and will be available in spring next year. The VH700 headset will be presented in three colour versions and will also be available in spring.
