Both Logic3 and USBfever have launched new speaker systems meant to be used with notebooks and MP3 players: the ScreenBeat USB and the Sonar Speaker, respectively.

The ScreenBeat USB is an aluminium, cylinder-shaped speaker that produces 3W of RMS output. Although targeted for use with notebooks, the ScreenBeat is capable of functioning with any media device having a USB port and, when plugged into it, is powered by that device. The design is compact and allows the speaker to sit close to the sides or the front of the computer. The ScreenBeat USB is available through Logic3’s website at a price of $30.

The Sonar Speaker is a round-shaped device using vibration to produce sound and can be used on surfaces such as wood, stone or glass. Like the ScreenBeat it is also USB-powered and comes in either black or red colours. Its frequency response is lower-tuned, starting at 100Hz and going up to 18KHz. The Sonar Speaker ships with a replacement plastic cushioning blade and a USB cable.
