MySpace has completed the buyout of the music streaming service iMeem. This happens after two months of negotiations and the transaction has been closed for under $1 million. As a consequence, MySpace Music bought iMeem’s assets and the latter will be shut down, all its customers being steered towards MySpace Music, which offers services such as free web streams and pay-per-download MP3s. Key executives will serve as consultants during the transition of the service, while other employees have an uncertain future. For the moment, iMeem’s website is inaccessible.
This acquisition intervenes just a few days after another transaction, one of the iMeem’s direct rivals, Lala, being bought by Apple. However, the two companies seem to have different goals. While Apple is believed to have a large interest in engineers specialized in Internet streaming to expand the reach of iTunes, MySpace Music seems to be interested in strengthening its existing web service.
Whatta hek! My space imeem? It’s just like forcing us to create an account on my space! You got that! Now, I can no longer access to my imeem account and seems to be that everything I downloaded my music to imeem, is all gone.
