Motorola will officially begin to sell in China, this month, its MT710 Zhiling smartphone under the China Mobile Ophone brand. The handset is similar to what is known in North America as the Android-powered Droid. The Chinese Motorola version will not use stock Android, but will use instead a proprietary version of the open source Open Mobile System created by China Mobile, and support China’s 3G standard, TD-SCDMA.

A Wi-Fi function supporting a special Chinese protocol will be part of the specifications of the MT710. The handset will not have a QWERTY keyboard and will rely instead exclusively on a 3.7-inch touchscreen to use for input. A five-megapixel camera is another feature of the handset. The MT710 handset will be available for selling in China on December 28th but there is no pricing information available by now.
