Research in Motion has announced its intention to produce special versions of its devices to be sold in China by the China Mobile provider. This implies that RIM has to make its devices compatible with the Chinese unique TD-SCDMA and TD-LTE networks in order to enter a market where the products of the Canadian company have not been sold so far. The BlackBerry Internet Service and the smartphones will be headed towards small and medium sized businesses, as well as towards individuals.

BlackBerry handsets were introduced in China in 2006 but were only sold to large corporations. Research in Motion is intending to expand its sales on the Chinese market as it cannot afford to ignore the world’s largest cell phone market when already facing a sharp competition in the existing markets where the iPhone and the numerous Android-based devices are very active.

The BlackBerry Internet Service is expected to launch under China Mobile sometime in 2010. The service will be accompanied by access to social network sites, instant messaging programs and e-mail. There is no specific date announced regarding the moment when BlackBerry handsets will become available for medium and small businesses in China.
