The 5800 Navigation Edition, introduced earlier this summer, has begun shipping in the United States. The touchscreen device provides lifetime voice-guided navigation information for North America and also has a car mount kit. Ovi Maps includes guidance and offers navigation assistance for pedestrians.
When driving, users get warnings for speed limit, speed camera alerts, as well as updated traffic information. Shortcuts like parks, pathways and one-way streets are shown for pedestrians. The phone comes with map info for the United States and Canada preloaded and this way saves users fro needing data connection to search for addresses or calculate routes. Map information for 180 other countries can be downloaded for free using the Nokia Map Loader PC application.
The handset has a 3.2-inch display and data can be accessed through the HSDPA connection. Photos can be taken using the 3.2-megapixel camera provided with Carl Zeiss optics. A memory card slot can be used to expand the capacity of the memory up to 16GB.
The Nokia 5800 Navigation Edition is available for a price of $299 when purchased online. The customers who buy the phone by December 31st and activate an Ovi Store account will also receive a $50 prepaid gift card from VISA.
